China's Shanghai Airlines ends B757 operations

Shanghai Airlines (FM, Shanghai Hongqiao) has ended B757-200 operations with the type's last commercial flight operated on Saturday, March 21. Social media sources state B-2875 (msn 33966) operated the flight from Harbin to Shanghai Pudong following which all three remaining aircraft were put into storage.

China Southern to make mainland Africa debut this August

China Southern Airlines (CZ, Guangzhou) is to launch its first scheduled services to the African mainland on August 5 with a 3x weekly service from Guangzhou to Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta, Kenya, operated onboard an A330-200. The route is currently operated as a codeshare with fellow Skyteam affiliate, Kenya Airways (KQ, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta).

The carrier already serves Africa with a 2x weekly Shenzhen-Mauritius service which launched in June 2014.

KLM signs cooperation agreement with China's Xiamen Airlines

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KL, Amsterdam) has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Xiamen Airlines (MF, Xiamen) and the City of Amsterdam in a bid to strengthen collaboration and accessibility between the Netherlands and China. Present during the ceremony was KLM CEO Pieter Elbers, Amsterdam mayor Eberhard van der Laan, and Xiamen Airlines’ Chief Operating Officer Zhao Dong.

Jilin province eyes partnership with COMAC for new carrier

Comac (Shanghai Pudong) is reportedly considering partnering the Jilin Province local government in the establishment of a new budget carrier which will use Changchun as its hub. Liu Jianxin, the deputy secretary of the party committee of Jilin Civil Airports Group, told China's WCARN news portal that government intends to use the airline to boost Changchun's overall profile.

Shenzhen Airlines establishes Chengdu base

Shenzhen Airlines (ZH, Shenzhen) officially launched its Chengdu base at a ceremony held in the Sichuan province metropolis last week. The base, the carrier's eighth overall after Guangzhou, Nanning, Zhengzhou, Changzhou, Wuxi, Shenyang, and Jinan, will see eight aircraft based at the airport initially growing to ten by the end of this year.
