    Hamburg Airways (HK, Hamburg Fuhlsbüttel) has been contracted by a Swedish tour operator to operate on the Stockholm Arlanda - Tehran Imam Khomeini route with a first flight recently being operated by Hamburg Airways' A320-200 D-AHHC (cn 2745) on November 28. Iran Aseman Airlines (EP, Tehran Mehrabad) has temporarily suspended its service on the route as its sole A340-300, EP-APA (cn 2) is currently undergoing month-long maintenance. Based on ch-aviation research, while the aircraft has not been chartered by Iran Aseman, but by a travel agency catering to ethnic Iranians living in Sweden, the travel agency's contract covers the exact period over which the A340 is unavailable for service.

    Iran Aseman Airlines (EP, Tehran Mehrabad) will add two unspecified aircraft to its current fleet of twenty-nine aircraft before year-end the airline's Public Relations Director, Siyavosh Chavoushi, announced on Sunday. The Fars News Agency quotes the Managing Director of Iran Aseman Airlines, Abbas Rahmatiyan, as saying: “We have plans to use new airplanes for long-distance flights and in this regard we are thinking of long-range airplanes,” he said. Aseman operates a sole A340-300 on flights to Dubai Int'l, Istanbul Atatürk, Istanbul Sabiha Gökcen and Stockholm Arlanda. Despite the recent successful outcome of talks between Iran and the global powers, Iranian carriers are likely to remain subject to an embargo that forbids the transfer of aircraft younger than 20-years of age to the country.

    Safi Airways (4Q, Kabul) operated the first international flight out of the newly refurbished Herat International Airport to Delhi Int'l on November 16. The flight was flown using an A319-100 Afghan business portal, Wadsam, reports. Featuring a new runway and new facilities following a USD5million upgrade sponsored by Spain and Italy, Herat International is now Afghanistan's second international airport after Kabul. Iran Aseman Airlines (EP, Tehran Mehrabad) also serves Herat from Mashad in Iran with a weekly Fokker 100 service.

    Iran Aseman Airlines (EP, Tehran Mehrabad) has launched a weekly ATR72 service from Tehran Mehrabad to Gachsaran thereby becoming the first scheduled operator to operate dedicated services to the airfield. The facility serves the town of Dogonbadan, noteworthy for its immense oil and gas reserves and said to be among the largest in the whole of Iran.

    Iran Aseman Airlines (EP, Tehran Mehrabad) is planning to launch twice weekly A340-300 from Tehran Imam Khomeini to Stockholm Arlanda from May 2. Stockholm would be the Iranian carrier's first destination in the European Union. Iran Aseman currently operates a single ex-Virgin Atlantic (VS, London Heathrow) A340-300 on routes from Tehran's international airport to Dubai Int'l, Istanbul Atatürk and Istanbul Sabiha Gökcen. In other news, it has also recently launched a twice weekly service from Tehran Mehrabad to Kalaleh using its fleet of ATR72s (it currently operates four ATR72-200s and two ATR72-500s) making it the first Iranian carrier to serve the city in Golestan province near Iran's border with Turkmenistan with scheduled services.
