  • Read more 24DEC2013: FedEx orders more B767-300(F)s; defers options for eleven B777Fs
    FedEx Express (FX, Memphis Int'l) has ordered two additional B767-300(F)s from Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare), the global logistics specialist said in a regulatory filing dated December 10. FedEx currently operates four of the type with a further 48 now on order. In a related development, FedEx also disclosed that it had deferred options to buy eleven more B777-Fs by two years. The move, according to the Wall Street Journal, is a result of the global slowdown in air cargo.
  • Read more 21NOV2013: FedEx granted tax exemption at Windsor's planned new cargo terminal
    FedEx Express (FX, Memphis Int'l) has been exempted from paying taxes at the new cargo village to be constructed at Windsor, Canada. According to Canadian Aviation News, Windsor city council granted the exemption as part of plans to encourage new carriers to use the airport. The city’s CAD2.5million contribution includes a 10-year tax exemption for FedEx which is due to begin operations in July 2015. Mayor "Fast" Eddie Francis says other investors are entitled to the same incentives as FedEx adding that discussions with another prospective tenant are already underway. Construction work on the terminal is scheduled to begin in 2014.

    FedEx Express (FX, Memphis Int'l) has taken delivery of its first of forty-nine B767-300(F)s, N101FE (msn 42706), as part of its fleet modernization strategy. The US logistics giant intends to use the twinjets as a replacement for its ageing fleet of 47 MD-10-10(F)s and 15 MD-10-30(F)s. The 767 Freighter is based on the popular B767-300 airframe and is able to carry approximately 58 tons (52.7 tonnes) of revenue cargo with intercontinental range.

    FedEx Express (FX, Memphis Int'l) will reportedly take thirteen Boeing 757 options as part of its plans to replace the B727-200(F). In March, United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare) announced it would sell the US cargo giant thirty B757-200s for subsequent conversion into freighters. FedEx currently operates seventy-four B757-200(F)s with another fourteen B757-200s parked and awaiting conversion.
  • Read more 10JUL2013: A first MD-10(F) for Transportes Aéreos Bolivianos
    Transportes Aéreos Bolivianos (2L, La Paz El Alto) will become the first operator of the MD-10(F) outside of FedEx Express (FX, Memphis Int'l) when it takes delivery of ex-N314FE (msn 48312). The Bolivian cargo carrier currently uses a single DC-10-10(F) and a DC-10-30(F) on flights between Bolivia and the United States. Following its merger with McDonnell Douglas (Long Beach) in the 1990s, Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare) conducted an upgrade program for the DC-10, equipping several with a glass cockpit, leading to their re-designation as MD-10s.
