New singular brand for LAN, TAM to be unveiled before year-end

LAN Airlines (LA, Santiago de Chile Int'l) and TAM Linhas Aéreas (JJ, São Paulo Congonhas) will begin the transition into a singular brand before the end of the year LAN's CEO, Ignacio Cueto, has said. Speaking to Colombia's El Tiempo newspaper, Cueto said LATAM Group management is working hard to find a suitable name that will unify the LATAM brand but which "will not necessarily be that of TAM, LAN, or even LATAM."

Brazil's TAM converts B777-300(ER) order into freighters

TAM Linhas Aéreas (JJ, São Paulo Congonhas) has converted purchase rights for two B777-300(ER)s from Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare) into two B777-Fs. LATAM's cargo joint venture in Brazil, ABSA Cargo (M3, Campinas Viracopos), currently operates a fleet of four B767-300(F) freighters, one of which operates in full TAM Cargo colours.

Sister carriers LAN Cargo (UC, Santiago de Chile Int'l) and Linea Aérea Carguera de Colombia (L7, Bogotá) already operate a total of four B777-F freighters.

Chile's LAN Cargo slapped with $0.9mln fine by Canada for price-fixing

LAN Cargo (UC, Santiago de Chile Int'l) has been fined CAD975'000(USD938'000) by the Canadian Competition Bureau after it admitted to taking part in an air cargo price-fixing cartel. The Chilean cargo airline's guilty plea related to fuel surcharges it imposed on international air cargo shipments from Canada to South America and elsewhere between March 2003 and February 2006, the bureau said in a statement.
