  • Read more 01APR2014: Greece's Minoan Air to open Salerno base in mid-April
Minoan Air (MAV, Heraklion) is to base one of its four Fokker 50s out of Salerno for flights to Split and Cagliari. According to the Salerno Airport website, the twice-weekly services are scheduled to begin on April 15 and will end on October 25.
  • Read more 05NOV2013: Silver Air to operate Lugano - Elba on behalf of Cityline Swiss
Silver Air (Czech Republic) (SLD, Prague) will operate a twice weekly service between Lugano and Elba on behalf of Cityline Swiss (Lugano) between June 20 and August 30, 2014. The flights will operate on-board a Let 410. The announcement is a small boost for Lugano Airport, which had suffered following the recent withdrawal of Greek carrier, Minoan Air (MAV, Heraklion). Cityline Swiss had last briefly operated for two months with wet-leased equipment in 2011 offering routes from Marseilles to Rome Fiumicino and Pau.
  • Read more 02SEP2013: Minoan abandons Lugano flights citing lack of demand
Minoan Air (MAV, Heraklion) has announced the suspension of its Lugano to Vienna and Rome Fiumicino flights effective immediately. A planned route to Paris CDG has also been dropped. In a statement, the Greek carrier blamed a lack of demand for the suspension of flights as well as a lack of appreciation for its product. It claimed it could not find any "rational explanations" as to why the Lugano - Rome route's previous operators had uplifted more than 18'000 pax/annum while Minoan itself, despite its economical fares, had struggled to reach even half that figure despite its "comfortable, safe" aircraft. Despite having cancelled all scheduled flights from its other base at Oxford Kidlington earlier in the year, the Greek operator continues to pursue charter and wet-lease opportunities with its fleet of four Fokker 50s.
  • Read more 21JUL2013: Minoan to temporarily suspend Lugano operations in August
Minoan Air (MAV, Heraklion) will temporarily suspend its operations from Lugano to Rome Fiumicino and Vienna during the month of August. The routes, launched in March of this year, will be resumed from early September. Minoan has said that it will use the Fokker 50 based in Lugano for charter flights in Greece during the peak tourist season. It offers seven weekly services from Lugano to Rome and three weekly flights to Vienna.
  • Read more 14JUL2013: Minoan axes Oxford to Dublin, Edinburgh from August 4
Minoan Air (MAV, Heraklion) has announced that it will axe its Oxford Kidlington to Dublin Int'l and Edinburgh routes owing to poor uptake. Launched in March, the Fokker 50 operated flights to both destinations will cease with effect from August 4 with Minoan therefore pulling out of the UK market completely.
