Thai Airways Int'l suspends Thai Smile's Bangkok airport switch

Thai Smile (WE, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) has delayed the planned wholesale transfer of its Bangkok Suvarnabhumi operations to Bangkok Don Mueang until March 2015 at the earliest after parent Thai Airways International's board of directors raised concerns about the move's viability at a recent meeting. Thai Smile outlines additional Bangkok Don Mueang changes

Thai Smile (WE, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) has outlined additional changes to its route network with flights to Chongqing and Macau Int'l next in line to be transferred from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi to Bangkok Don Mueang with effect from October 26.

In addition, AirlineRoute reports, after October 26, the following domestic services will also be transferred to Bangkok Don Mueang: Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Hat Yai, Khon Kaen, Krabi, Phuket, Surat Thani, Ubon Ratchathani, and Udon Thani.

Thai Airways Int'l to axe 1'500 jobs this year

Thai Airways International (TG, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) management says it will lay off 1'500 workers this year as part of plans to cut THB4billion (USD126million) in overheads over the next two years. The new Thai military junta prioritized a restructuring plan for the loss-making carrier last month which, among other things, aims to cut over 6'000 posts by 2018. At present, Thai employs 25'000 staff with an additional 5'000 employed via third party contractors.

Nok Air (DD, Bangkok Don Mueang) along with Thai Airways International (TG, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) and its Thai Smile (WE, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) subsidiary will this week hold talks centring on how best to respond to the rising threat of low cost carriers - Thai AirAsia (FD, Bangkok Don Mueang) and Thai Lion Air (SL, Bangkok Don Mueang) in particular - in the Thai domestic market.

Thai Smile to switch select domestic routes to Bangkok Don Mueang

Thai Smile (WE, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) will move selected domestic Thai flights from its Bangkok Suvarnabhumi hub to Bangkok Don Mueang with effect from August 8. According to AirlineRoute, the destinations affected include Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, and Phuket. All three destinations will continue to be served by Thai Airways International from Suvarnabhumi with Thai Smile also retaining some flights between Suvarnabhumi and Phuket.
