VivaColombia (5Z, Medellín José Maria Córdova) is considering establishing a base at San Salvador Int'l, El Salvador as an initial foothold into the lucrative, yet underserved, Central American market.

Speaking at the recent Routes Americas conference, VivaColombia Vice President Commercial, William Shaw, said his airline was talking to many countries in the region and saw great potential for a Low Cost Carrier in the region.

Aerocivil also granted VivaColombia several additional Colombian domestic routes. Using a fleet of five A320-200s, VivaColombia launched domestic operations in 2011. Since then it has moved to consolidate its presence in the country ahead of a planned expansion into Central and South America as well as the southern United States. When asked about his future investment plans, Mr Ryan said he saw strong potential in countries such as Chile and Panama as well as in Central America in general, but dispelled any notion of setting up shop in either Argentina or Brazil given the difficulties associated with entering those two markets.
