Starbow Airlines (S9, Accra) and Africa World Airlines (AW, Accra) have reacted angrily to a Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) directive compelling all operators to use either Aviance Cargo or Menzies Aviation for all their ground-handling requirements.
The two carriers currently conduct their own in-house ramp operations leading to claims the switch would affect tens of local jobs while driving up the cost of operations in an already competitive market.
Comair (South Africa) (MN, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) has announced that shareholder Thelo Aviation Consortium, has divested its entire stake in Comair Ltd for ZAR159.8 million (USD13.1 million). Owned by Ronnie Ntuli and Khutso Mampeule, Thelo acquired a 15% stake in the South African carrier in 2007 as part of a Black Economic Empowerment deal.
