LAN Argentina (Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery) and its stand-off with the Argentine airports authority (Organismo Regulador del Sistema Nacional de Aeropuertos - ORSNA) over a pending eviction from a vital MRO hangar at Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery, is centred on a lack of reciprocity in the awarding of Aerolíneas Argentinas (AR, Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery) rights to serve both Chilean and Brazilian domestic routes, the Mercopress reports. Speaking in Buenos Aires last week, Argentina's Interior and Transport minister, Florencio Randazzo, said LATAM (LAN's parent company) "should contribute with reciprocity, that is that Chile and Brazil authorize our flag carrier to make domestic flights in those countries”, said Randazzo. Deputy Minister of the Economy & Public Finances, Axel Kicillof, added that the government's objective is to defend the national carrier and its interests. “For the Argentine economy it wouldn’t be at all negative to be able to have hangars in Brazil and Chile so that our flag carrier Aerolineas can operate domestic flights in those countries”, he said. On a meeting held last week with LAN’s Vice President, Enrique Cueto, Mr Kicillof noted that it was "cordial" with LAN being asked to "join" Buenos Aires in its quest to secure domestic Brazilian and Chilean traffic rights.
