LAN Colombia (Bogotá) will become an affiliate member of Oneworld effective October 1, the alliance has announced. The Colombian carrier thereby becomes the latest member of the LATAM Group to join oneworld following in the footsteps of LAN Argentina (Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery), LAN Ecuador (Quito International) and LAN Perú (Lima International). As part of Chilean regulatory conditions applied to the 2011 merger of LAN Airlines (Santiago de Chile) and TAM Linhas Aéreas (São Paulo Congonhas) to form LATAM, the group's Brazilian partner will be required to leave Star Alliance to join oneworld; a move slated for sometime in 2Q 2014. TAM's Paraguayan affiliate, TAM Airlines (Asuncion), will also become part of oneworld. Launched in late 2011 following LAN Airlines' acquisition of Aires (Bogotá), LAN Colombia operates six A320-200s, five B737-700s and nine Dash 8-200s on a route network that primarily focuses on the Colombian domestic market but which also covers Brazil, Chile and the United States.
