AirAsia Philippines (Manila Ninoy Aquino International) has announced that it will suspend all of its remaining domestic and regional operations out of Angeles City Clark International beginning in October. The airline says the move is intended to help sister carrier, Zest Air (Manila Ninoy Aquino International), recover its financial footing following the "significant losses" it incurred during a four-day suspension of operations imposed on it by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines in August. According to Marianne Hontiveros, the CEO of Philippines AirAsia, help is also being sought from AirAsia (AK, Kuala Lumpur International). As it stands, Davao flights are to be cancelled effective October 8, Kalibo from October 9, Taipei Taoyuan from October 31 and Hong Kong International from November 10. Philippines AirAsia acquired a 49% stake in Zest Air last March and will now forge ahead with plans to develop Manila Ninoy Aquino International into a regional hub with both carriers set to undergo rebranding and restructuring in the near future.
