Allegiant Air (G4, Las Vegas Harry Reid) has grounded its entire MD-8X fleet (two MD-82s, forty-eight MD-83s, one MD-87 and six MD-88s) over the past few days after it was discovered during an evacuation of a flight at Las Vegas Harry Reid on Monday, September 16, that the slides on its MD-80 aircraft were not in compliance with the manufacturer’s (McDonnell Douglas (Long Beach)) recommendations. According to airchive, the slides were required to be reworked every three years, but in 2007 the specification was updated to require the overhaul annually. While almost half the fleet has now been inspected and returned into service as of this posting, the airline says it is struggling to maintain adequate services with numerous flights having been either heavily delayed or cancelled.
