Alaska Airlines (AS, Seattle Tacoma International) has placed an order with Boeing (BOE, Washington National) subsidiary, Aviation Partners Boeing (APB), for 111 firm Split Scimitar Winglet Systems for its B737 Next Generation fleet. APB expects its Split Scimitar Winglets to be certified and enter revenue service by the end of this year with Alaska Airlines one of the very first airlines worldwide to deploy them. Alaskan expects to save USD20million in annual fuel costs once it has retrofitted the devices to its fleet of seventeen B737-700s, sixty-one B737-800s and twenty-two B737-900s.
