Adria Airways (Ljubljana) is to retire its fleet of four CRJ200s and replace them with more CRJ900s. Among the first jets to be parked are S5-AAD (cn 7166) and S5-AAE (cn 7170), EX-YU Aviation News says. Another of the fleet, cn 8010, was sold to Kazakhstan's SCAT Airlines (DV, Shymkent) in late September. The two twinjets will be replaced with leased -900ERs formerly operated Italy's Alitalia CityLiner (CYL, Rome Fiumicino). CEO Mark Anžur says the -200s are only suitable for developing new routes whereas Adria's strategy "is to operate larger aircraft and fewer frequencies," thereby allowing it to offer lower fares. In the year ahead, the Slovenian carrier intends to expand its network out of Ljubljana while offering 7th freedom flights out of Tirana. In addition, an unspecified jet could also be based out of Klagenfurt, Austria at some point in the future.
