Uzbekistan Airways (HY, Tashkent International) could be forced to drop its Tashkent International to Kyiv Boryspil flights unless a solution to an impasse between Uzbekistan and Ukraine over the allocation of landing slots in the respective countries is found. Quoting Ukraine's Kommersant, Central Asia Aviation News reports that Ukraine International Airlines (PS, Kyiv Boryspil) has come under fire from the Uzbek national carrier over its alleged wanton demands for slots at Tashkent airport in disregard of the terms of the Bilateral Air Services Agreement. Uzbekistan Airways has also been unable to secure rights to serve Tashkent – Kiev and vice versa for the upcoming Winter season. “If the UIA does not take an adequate and flexible position on the issue of obtaining slots at Tashkent International Airport and the aviation authorities of Ukraine continue applying unreasonable restrictive measures in relation to Uzbekistan Airways, the Airline will be forced to stop flying to Kiev”, the report said. Uzbekistan is currently awaiting the arrival of Ukrainian delegation to resolve the dispute.
