Air India (AI, Delhi International) could join Star Alliance as early as 2014 after a meeting of the alliance's members in Vienna resolved to lift a suspension on the Indian national carrier's application. "We are confident that association with Star Alliance would go a long way to strengthen both of us," Rohit Nandan, CEO of Air India said. Air India's initial application was suspended in July 2011 on the grounds it failed to satisfy minimum requirements. "The re-integration process will begin now. There have been some fresh requirements brought into the structure since 2011. We will have to do a gap analysis to integrate with the system," Pankaj Srivastava, director commercial at Air India, told the Economic Times. In a related development, the Vienna meeting also agreed to extend membership to Avianca Brasil (São Paulo Congonhas). Integration teams from Star Alliance, Avianca (Bogotá) and Avianca Brazil will now commence work to include the Brazilian carrier in the Alliance during 2014.
