Swiss (LX, Zurich) has taken Flughafen Zürich AG, the owner of Zurich airport, to court over its latest round of service charge increases which now include parking fees for aircraft. German aviation portal aero.de says Swiss, in tandem with Austrian Airlines (OS, Vienna) and several other carriers, have objected to the increases saying that should they come into effect on February 1, 2014 as advertised, then collectively, they would represent an additional CHF115million (USD127million) in overheads that they would have to pay over the period 2014 to 2017. A coalition of airlines and Flughafen Zürich AG had attempted to negotiate a compromise earlier in the year though these talks reportedly collapsed. "Compared to similar airports such as Vienna or Brussels National, the fees would be need to reduced by about 20 percent. The problem is also that there are no efficiency incentives for airport operators," said Rainer Hiltebrand, Swiss' Chief Operating Officer.
