Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi International) CEO James Hogan has denied having any designs on either LOT Polish Airlines (LO, Warsaw Chopin) or airBaltic (BT, Riga) and nor does his carrier have any interest in acquiring a stake in Aeroporti di Roma's Rome Fiumicino airport. Rumours have been circulating of the airline's purported shopping list which has so far seen it acquire a 33.3% shareholding in Switzerland's Darwin Airline (Lugano). On the issue of the airline's much vaunted talks with Alitalia (AZA, Rome Fiumicino), Mr Hogan told Reuters in Berlin that Etihad would not be rushed into any deal with the Italians. "There are no plans to make any announcement at the end of this month," he said. "What is important in any transaction is that you undertake your due diligence and ensure if you are going to invest, there is a clear plan to move to profitability. We will not be rushed into making a decision," he concluded. Earlier in the year, Italian paper, Il Messaggero, had claimed that a potential deal between the Emiratis and the struggling Italian national carrier could be tabled as early as this week.
