JAL - Japan Airlines (JL, Tokyo Haneda) and ANA - All Nippon Airways (NH, Tokyo Haneda) are once again at loggerheads over valued Tokyo Haneda slots. In its report, Reuters states the dispute, which has been ongoing since initial allocations were made in October 2013, arose after All Nippon urged regulators to deny Japan Airlines rights to serve Ho Chi Minh City out of Haneda. "We hope the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau will make an appropriate decision," ANA said in a statement. Analysts speculate that President Shinzo Abe's Liberal Democratic party is more sympathetic to ANA's cause as it was in opposition when JAL was bailed out by the previous Yoshihiko Noda administration. Having been granted just five Haneda slots in comparison to ANA's eleven in last year's slot allocation exercise, JAL has considered taking legal action against the Japanese government to correct the matter. In a bid to gain greater access to Haneda, which is closer to downtown Tokyo than Tokyo Narita, JAL is also looking to use the airport's unused late-night slots.
