TAG - Transportes Aéreos Guatemaltecos (Guatemala City) will begin operations to San Salvador's old airport on March 20 with a daily flight from Guatemala City to San Salvador Ilopango in El Salvador, the head of the El Salvadoran Civil Aviation Authority (Autoridad de Aviación Civil - AAC) Alirio Serrano has confirmed at Routes Americas.

He told the El Salvador newspaper that flights to Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Belize would also be added at some stage in the future.

Operations are on-board one of the airlines three Saab 340As.

Serrano also confirmed that local start-up VECA Airlines (San Salvador International), which is funded by Alba, has obtained its Air Operators Certificate and is now sorting out the last few permits required ahead of a possible April launch.

"We hope that with these airlines, and others that may subsequently come to the country, the industry here will grow," Serrano concluded.
