Ukraine International Airlines (PS, Kyiv Boryspil) has resumed flights between Kyiv Boryspil and Simferopol in the Crimea after Ukraine's airspace was temporarily closed to civilian traffic over the weekend. The airline had cancelled flights to and from Simferopol airport on Friday evening and Saturday.

Ukraine, which has been teetering on the brink of civil war in recent months, is now faced with the prospect of a Russian invasion. Russian forces have already seized Crimea - home to the Russian Black Sea naval fleet.

On Saturday, March 1, Russian president Vladimir Putin obtained permission from the Duma to use military force to protect Russian citizens in Ukraine.
