EVA Air (BR, Taipei Taoyuan) has no plans to enter the low-cost carrier market chairman Chang Kuo-wei has disclosed. Kuo-wei's comments come as EVA's local competitors, TransAsia Airways (Taipei Sung Shan) and China Airlines (CI, Taipei Taoyuan), have already outlined plans to establish their own respective LCCs - V air (Taipei Taoyuan) and Tigerair Taiwan (IT, Taipei Taoyuan).

"EVA wants to be recognized and appreciated by the world as a high-quality airline company," chairman Chang Kuo-wei told Focus Taiwan in a press briefing on EVA's annual outlook.

Kuowei added that EVA will focus on its long-haul service-oriented model, following regional competitors such as Singapore Airlines (SQ, Singapore Changi), Cathay Pacific (CX, Hong Kong International) and ANA - All Nippon Airways (NH, Tokyo Haneda). Chang said that in his opinion, budget airlines do best in developing countries with large consumer bases and relatively low expectations for service quality.
