Libyan Airlines (LN, Tripoli Mitiga) is to resume its flights to Europe after Libya’s Civil Aviation Authority (LyCAA) lifted a moratorium on the airline's European operations last week.

The Libyan Herald reports the airline agreed to the LyCAA's demands to implement stricter checks and controls. The temporary ban on flights came after a Libyan Airlines flight, operated by Nouvelair (BJ, Monastir) and bound for Manchester International, on February 21 entered French airspace without informing Air Traffic Control and then remained out of communication almost until it had reached UK airspace.

“We met with the Tunisian Civil Aviation Authority to discuss the issues and are now satisfied that action has been taken to prevent such an incident happening again and to ensure passenger safety,” Director General of the LyCAA, Captain Nasereddin Shaebelain, said.

Among the measures to be enforced include new crew and operational procedures as well as flight-time limitations.

The LyCAA will also increase its audits of Nouvelair operations on behalf of Libyan Airlines.

Tunis has also opened its own investigation into the incident.
