Hainan Airlines (HU, Haikou) is reportedly planning to phase out its fleet of three A340-600s used to service its Beijing Capital to Shenzhen and Toronto Pearson routes. According to Airline Route, the Chinese carrier has begun withdrawing the type from its schedules.

The ch-aviation aircraft database shows that of the ninety-nine -600s ever built, ninety are still in service with the likes of Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International), Iberia (IB, Madrid Barajas), Virgin Atlantic (VS, London Heathrow), South African Airways (SA, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo), Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi International), Thai Airways International (TG, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi), China Eastern Airlines (MU, Shanghai Hongqiao), Qatar Airways (QR, Doha Hamad International) and Hi Fly Malta (3L, Malta International).
