Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) will establish a base in Riga using one A320-200 effective June 19. To mark the occasion, the Hungarian LCC will launch new flights to Barcelona El Prat, Doncaster/Sheffield, Dortmund, and Paris Beauvais while boosting existing frequencies to Oslo Torp and London Luton.

At a press conference held in Riga last week, József Váradi, Wizz Air’s CEO said: "[Our] announcement underlines Wizz Air’s commitment to Latvia. We started our operations in Riga just 4 years ago and already carried 200,000 passengers in 2013. The new Riga base will not only bring a significant capital investment, but also create a number of local jobs with Wizz Air and our local business partners. Latvia is becoming our 10th country where we have established base operations.”

Wizzair counts Vilnius as its other Baltic base.
