Mega Maldives Air (Malé) has partnered Nepal's BB Airways (BBW, Kathmandu) following the successful conclusion of talks the Maldivian carrier's CEO George Weinmann has revealed.

Speaking at the recently-ended CAPA Airline Fleet and Finance Summit 2014, Weinmann said the joint-venture was signed in mid-March with plans for a further two joint-ventures also in the pipeline.

“We believe we can expand laterally,” Weinmann said.

With its current fleet sitting on one B737-800 wet-leased from Travel Service Airlines (Prague Václav Havel), a B757-200 and two B767-300(ER)s, Weinmann plans to add a further four 757s and an extra B767 to the fleet this year. An additional five are due in both 2015 and 2016.

The added capacity will be used in developing long-haul routes to Europe, currently dominated by European and Middle Eastern carriers. Australia has also been considered as a possible destination, he said.
