PIA - Pakistan International Airlines (PK, Islamabad International) has taken delivery of two A320-200s on short-term wet-lease from Holidays Czech Airlines (Prague Václav Havel). The twinjets, OK-LEF (cn 2758) and OK-MEJ (cn 3097), arrived in Karachi International last week replacing two B737-800s, TC-TJL (msn 32920) & TC-TJN (msn 28535), which were returned to Corendon Airlines (XC, Antalya).

As part of its fleet revival strategy, PIA plans to induct 28 aircraft - twenty A320s and B737NextGens, four B777s and four ATR72-500 aircraft - into its fleet this year. The airline's current fleet of nine B777s will be refurbished for use on long-haul services to the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and Saudi Arabia.

In terms of its business strategy, PIA is to be restructured with the creation of separate Strategic Business Units (SBUs). The first entity to be spun off will be the airline's courier service, Speedex, followed by PIA Catering and MRO division, PIA Engineering.

Non-core activities are to be separated from core business to ensure profitability and efficiency.
