Philippine Airlines (PR, Manila Ninoy Aquino International) is planning to develop new routes to Japan from its secondary hubs the Senior Vice President for Airline Operations, Ismael S. Gozon, has told the Filipino press.

“We now fly twice daily from Cebu to Tokyo Narita, and we are studying the new destinations. There is a big demand in Davao and Cuyo and we’ll try to service these markets,” he told Business Monitor.

Philippine Airlines launched twice daily flights from Manila Ninoy Aquino International to Tokyo Haneda late last month.

In a related development, AirAsia Zest (Manila Ninoy Aquino International) has announced plans to develop Kalibo in a secondary hub. According to the PhilippineFlightNetwork, the AirAsia (AK, Kuala Lumpur International) subsidiary intends to base an unspecified number of aircraft and air crew at the airport to operate 320 weekly flights by July.

AirAsia Zest sees the airport as a springboard into the Chinese market with flights to Guangzhou, Wenzhou, Chengdu Shuangliu, Ningbo, Changsha Huanghua, Xiamen and Hangzhou planned.

Existing domestic services to Manila Ninoy Aquino International will be increased as will flights to Seoul Incheon, Taipei Taoyuan, Beijing Capital, Busan, Shanghai Pudong and Wenzhou.
