Rostock Airways (Rostock) plans to operate flights out of Rostock have officially fallen through the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has noted. During a recent debate among MPs, airliners.de notes that the Ministry of Transport for the north-German state said Rostock Airways was no longer active in seeking to operate flights to Copenhagen Kastrup, Munich and Zurich as previously planned. The virtual airline had intended to uplift over 100'000 pax/annum in its original business plans.

The move to abandon Rostock could also have serious consequences on the airport's long term prospects as government had tied an increase in federal subsidies to the facility on it having doubled its passenger traffic by 2017. Rostock airport is a former East German Air Force base which became a civilian airport in 1993.

Among Rostock Airways' other ambitious plans was the establishment of a base at Zweibrücken as well as a joint-venture with Air Alps (Innsbruck) to offer Bremen Hans Koschnick to Zurich flights.
