Allegiant Air (G4, Las Vegas Harry Reid) has deferred the planned launch of flights to Mexico - its first international routes - from the end of the year, to 2015. Announcing his carrier's earnings for the first quarter of 2014, president Andrew Levy told FlightGlobal that the delay was a result of Allegiant prioritising the roll-out of critical IT resources over other network expansion.

"We view Mexico as an extension of a network... [but] we are focused on delivering other automation products both on the commercial and operations side of the business," he said.

The LCC had applied for rights to serve Hermosillo and San José Cabo from its Las Vegas Harry Reid hub.

In October 2013, Allegiant outlined plans to start scheduled services from Florida to smaller cities in Atlantic Canada as well as Canada's western regions, as early as the winter of 2014.
