Ukraine International Airlines (PS, Kyiv Boryspil) and other Ukrainian operator have been banned by Kiev from serving the Russian territories of Chechnya, Ingushetia, Dagestan, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, Abkhazia as well as North and South Ossetia.

Citing the regions' continuing instability, Russia's ITAR-TASS news agency said Kiev would only permit flights to the affected regions following clearance from the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine's security section. Only operators flying United Nations contracts would be allowed to serve the regions, the newswire added.

In response to rising ethnic and civil tensions, Kiev earlier this month imposed a moratorium on Russian carriers serving the eastern cities of Kharkiv and Donetsk.
