MASwings (MY, Kota Kinabalu) will retire three of its legacy de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otters this month as it prepares to induct its sixth and final DHC-6 Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft in November this year. Chief Executive Officer Datuk Captain Mohd Nawawi Awang told the Bernama newswire that the new Viking Air (VKN, Victoria International) Twin Otters are being used to improve services to rural areas in Sarawak and Sabah.

The Malaysia Airlines (MH, Kuala Lumpur International) subsidiary is also expecting an additional six ATR72-600s over the course of the next two years.

"One aircraft, 9M-MYB (cn 1153), is already at Kuala Lumpur Subang and is expected to arrive here tomorrow or in the next few days. We expect it to be in service by next week, another two -600 aircraft are expected to arrive between August and October this year, and the rest later in the year," he said.

Adding to eleven other ATR72s already in service, the new turboprops will be used to boost services to Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.
