Africa World Airlines (AW, Accra) will acquire two A319-100s before the end of the year as the carrier pushes ahead with plans to increase its West African market presence.

In an interview with Ghana's BF&T newspaper, Africa World Airlines’ Chief Operating Officer (COO), Apiigy Afenu said: “We look forward to acquiring two of the A319s this year, and many more as the company progresses. This can help us with our West Coast expansion and help us to be competitive on the Lagos route.”

While the Hainan Airlines (HU, Haikou) subsidiary currently operates three E145s encompassing Accra, Kumasi, and Tamale locally as well as Lagos regionally, Afenu said his airline intends to launch Abuja services in July followed by Freetown, Monrovia Roberts, Banjul, Dakar Yoff-Léopold Sédar Senghor International, and Abidjan by year-end. Possible flights to South America have also been mentioned though not confirmed.
