Interair South Africa (Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) has signed a codeshare agreement with Air Tanzania (TC, Dar es Salaam) ahead of the former's upcoming launch of a 3x weekly Johannesburg O.R. Tambo to Dar es Salaam route. The agreement, which was announced by Air Tanzania's CEO Capt. Milton Lazaro last week, will allow both airlines to get their foot in the door apropos the growing South Africa - Tanzanian travel market.

"With this new arrangement, we are confident the schedule will appeal to travellers throughout the two destinations, thereby providing a source of revenue that will contribute to the growth of Air Tanzania, Tanzania tourism and our home economy," Capt. Lazaro said.

The agreement will be extended to cover other destinations in Air Tanzania's network such as Arusha, Zanzibar, Mwanza, Mbeya, and Moroni International in the Comoros in due course.

Flights between the two countries are currently dominated by South African Airways (SA, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) and Fastjet (Dar es Salaam) while the last Tanzanian carrier to service the route was Precision Air (PW, Dar es Salaam) which last did so in late 2012.
