Volaris (Y4, México City International) CEO Enrique Beltranena says his airline is currently studying the possibility of flights to Canada and possibly South America. In an interview with Mexico's El Financiero newspaper, Beltranena said growing concern over stagnation in the local economy had driven his airline to seek out new markets.

Commenting on the carrier's poor first quarter performance, the CEO said the problem was not local to his airline alone, but even to traditional carriers such as Aeroméxico (AM, México City International). "The people have not realized the gravity and magnitude of the problem," referring to the Mexican economic stagnation.

He also highlighted the LCC's success in using its direct point-to-point model - Uruapan to Los Angeles International in particular - as opposed to the more traditional hub model of routing flights via México City International used by local rivals such as Interjet (AIJ, Toluca).
