Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras (AD, São Paulo Viracopos) will likely benefit the most from new Brazilian legislation which seeks to redistribute traffic rights at the congested São Paulo Congonhas, the CEO of Avianca Brasil (São Paulo Congonhas), Jose Efromovich, has said.

Given the criteria involved, Efromovich said Azul would likely be the biggest benefactor as it had yet to establish any meaningful presence at the airport.

The Brazilian Secretariat of Civil Aviation (Secretaria de Aviação Civil - SAC) announced on July 9 that it would begin redistributing slots at the São Paulo airport with effect from August 1 with priority being given to new entrants. In addition, up to 12% of slots will be reserved for 90+ seater aircraft.

Brazilian Minister of Civil Aviation, Moreira Franco, said the process will help alleviate congestion at the country's fourth busiest airport in addition to breaking TAM Linhas Aéreas (São Paulo Congonhas) and GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes (G3, São Paulo Congonhas) dominance there.
