Afriqiyah Airways (8U, Tripoli Mitiga) could be forced to write-off one of its three recently delivered A330-200s following an attack on Tripoli International airport this past weekend. The Libyan Herald says the A330, along with an A320, were hit with gunfire which, in the A330's case, was described as "severe".

It is also claimed that three B737s belonging to local private carrier, Buraq Air (UZ, Tripoli Mitiga), also sustained damage though the severity is currently unknown.

The newspaper says that following intense fighting between Qaaqaa and Sawaq brigades, and the Fajr forces in the area to the south of Tripoli International Airport, it is still unclear as to who now holds the airport itself.

With the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority (LyCAA) having now closed Tripoli to all flights, the troubled North African country has now been left with only one operational international airport - Beida.

Maltese air traffic control on Sunday closed all airspace in Western Libya, including that over Misurata.
