Republic Airlines (Indianapolis International) has announced plans to consolidate its operations down to two operating certificates in a bid to simplify and streamline the airline's operating structure and fleet.

In a letter to employees seen by ch-aviation, CEO, Bryan Bedford, said Republic's current set-up involves three carriers - Republic Airlines, Shuttle America (Fort Wayne International), and Chautauqua Airlines (Indianapolis International) - operating under three distinctive Air Operator Certificates. However, the carrier's management intends to change that.

"Today’s announcement just continues us down the same path of optimization. The removal of an additional operating certificate will lead to more administrative efficiencies and greater consistency in best practices," he said.

In addition, Republic also intends to phase out its E140, E145, and E190 assets leaving it with only Dash 8-400s, E170s and E175s.

"The further consolidation of our fleet will allow for more efficient training programs; greater efficiencies in spare parts and supply-chain management; and greater labor efficiencies for crews, mechanics, and operations support. In short, the changes should make us a more efficient and productive airline at a time when more efficiency is being demanded from our partner airlines," Bedford added.

While no official confirmation has yet been heard from the airline, it is believed Shuttle America will be reabsorbed into Chautauqua Airlines.

Republic's management has reportedly begun talks with its operations team and mainline partners.
