Amakusa Airlines (MZ, Amakusa) intends to replace its sole aircraft - a Dash 8-100, JA81AM (cn 537) - with an ATR42-600 sourced from Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC). The carrier signed a Letter of Intent with the Danish lessor at the recently ended Farnborough International Airshow 2014.

"When the Kumamoto Prefecture based regional airline accepts the aircraft in the fourth quarter of 2015, it will become the first ATR42 operator in Japan," NAC said in a statement.

Established in 1998, Amakusa Airlines provides scheduled regional services connecting Amakusa, off the coast of mainland Kyushu in southwestern Japan, to large cities such as Kumamoto, Fukuoka and Osaka Kansai.
