Hawaiian Airlines (HA, Honolulu) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) to acquire six new A330-800neo aircraft with purchase rights for an additional six aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2019.

Should all options be exercised, the order, which replaces an existing one for six A350-800 aircraft due for delivery from 2017 onwards, is valued at USD2.9billion at list-price value.

The A330-800neo will bear similarities to Hawaiian Airline's fleet of A330-200s but will incorporate aerodynamic enhancements, new cabin features as well as a 400-nautical mile increase in range made possible by its upgraded Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 motors.

Hawaiian Airline's existing orders with the Europeans include an additional four new A330-200s due for delivery by 2015 and sixteen A321neo aircraft due to begin arriving in 2017.
