MAYAir (MYI, Cancún) is set to introduce the Fokker 50 into its fleet after the Mexican civil aviation authority (Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil - DGAC) recently certified the type for domestic operations. It plans to add an ex-Amapola Flyg (HP, Stockholm Arlanda) aircraft (cn 20194) shortly.
Earlier this year, the carrier began the process of applying for its own Air Operators Certificate (AOC) from the DGAC with plans to open up flights linking Cancún and Cozumel with Poza Rica, Tampico and Matamoros. MAYair currently uses Do228 and Cessna Caravan 208s.
Fokker Services says it has seen strong demand for Fokker Aircraft (Woensdrecht) in Latin America with InselAir (Curacao) and Surinam's Blue Wing Airlines (BWI, Paramaribo Zorg en Hoop) both in line for Fokker 70s.
