Urumqi Air (UQ, Urumqi) has secured its Air Operator's Certificate (AOC) from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). Backed with CNY3billion (USD486.1million) in start-up capital, the carrier is a 70/30 joint venture between Hainan Airlines (HU, Haikou) and the Urumqi Urban Construction Investment Co.

According WCARN, the start-up has been approved to induct two in-house B737-800s and a B737-300 leased from HNA Group for its initial operations.

Urumqi's operational confines include domestic (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) and international passenger & cargo transportation flights.
