Tunisair (TU, Tunis) has suspended its flights to the Libyan towns of Tobruk and Brak following a decision by the Tunisian government to close its airspace to Libyan aircraft with effect from last week.

"All flights from the Libyan airports of Tripoli Mitiga, Misurata and Sert have been cancelled until further notice, under decision of the Ministry of Transport," the airline said.

Egyptian authorities last week also moved to ban Libyan flights to Cairo International for security reasons.

Earlier this month, the Libyan government said unidentified fighter jets had attacked positions of armed groups bunkered down in Tripoli. While renegade general Khalifa Haftar has claimed responsibility for the attacks aimed at expelling rivals from the capital, analysts have questioned how Libyan Air Force jets could have flown over 1'000km at night from their Benghazi base given their age and general unserviceability.
