Comair (South Africa) (CAW, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) says it will acquire two B737-400s from Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) with delivery of the aircraft scheduled for next year. The jets are valued at ZAR44million (USD3.99million).

For its Kulula Air (Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) low-cost carrier division and under its franchise agreement with British Airways (BA, London Heathrow), Comair operates six B737-300s, ten B737-400s, and ten B737-800s on flights throughout South Africa as well as regionally to Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mauritius, Kenya, and Namibia.

Against the backdrop of a contracting domestic market and devaluation of the South African Rand, the airline has said it is now seeking partnerships for regional expansion as a means of offsetting declining volumes on its African routes.
