Skymark Airlines (BC, Tokyo Haneda) has opened negotiations with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) with a view to reducing financial penalties incurred following the cancellation of its order for six A380-800s.

Airline spokesman Hiroyuki Sakata told Bloomberg news that Skymark executives last month held talks with colleagues from the European manufacturer to lower the penalty to such an extent that it doesn't impact the airline's business.

The Japanese LCC warned in August that the possibility of facing up to JPY70billion (USD682million) in compensation claims from the Europeans could affect its ability to remain a going-concern.
