US Airways (Phoenix Sky Harbor) and American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) have announced the successful merger of their respective cargo handling operations which will now operate under the collective "American Airlines Cargo" banner. As it now stands, the new entity will transport more than one billion pounds of freight and mail annually generating more than USD800million in revenue each year.

"The Cargo teams have successfully combined 154 facilities and harmonized products since December 2013, making it the first operations division at the airline to be fully integrated," American said Monday.

As of October 20, the operations now use a single air waybill using the American Airlines prefix '001'.

The American Airlines Group (AAG) was born in late 2013 after AMR's American Airlines exited bankruptcy and merged with US Airways Group. The airline groups together will form the world's largest airline operating more than 6'700 daily flights to 336 locations in 56 countries worldwide, with about USD40billion in operating revenue. It will also employ over 100,000 employees, with plans to take delivery of 607 new aircraft.
