Aviogenex (Belgrade) has reportedly caught the eye of Swiss investment firm, Helvax AG, which plans to use the carrier to open up the southern Serbian town Nis to international traffic.
According to the flynis blog, Helvax has already started preliminary discussions with Belgrade. In September, an unnamed Dubai-based firm approached the Serb government with a proposal though the outcome of those talks is not yet known.
As part of its privatization programme, Serbia is selling off various loss-making state assets, among them Aviogenex. Belgrade is hoping to replicate the success of Jat Airways (Belgrade), which was reconstituted as Air Serbia (JU, Belgrade) after Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi International) acquired a 49% stake in the carrier in the middle of last year.
