TACV - Cabo Verde Airlines (Praia) will be privatized by the middle of next year Cape Verde’s Minister of Infrastructure and Maritime Economics, Sara Lopes, has said.

According to local newspaper, A Semana, though government has received several expressions of interest for a stake in the carrier since the process was announced in 2002, it is unwilling to privatize it just yet given its current economic and financial situation.

The government has initiated the process with the spinning off of the carrier's various interests into stand-alone subsidiaries with ground handling the first to go.

Having posted significant losses over the last decade or so, TACV has recognized that a sustainable recovery and expansion of the airline will only be possible if is restructured, privatized, and integrated into an international airline network.

Among the foreign airlines that have expressed an interest in acquiring the national airline are China's Okay Airways (BK, Tianjin) and Angola's TAAG Angola Airlines (DT, Luanda 4 De Fevereiro).
