Tigerair Taiwan (IT, Taipei Taoyuan) has applied to Taiwan's Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) for mainland Chinese traffic rights, barely two months after it commenced operations.

Focus Taiwan news reports the budget carrier recently joined EVA Air, China Airlines, Far Eastern Air Transport, Uni Air, and Mandarin Airlines in applying for rights to three weekly return flights between Taiwan and Changzhou, in Jiangsu province, and Shantou in Guangdong province.

Following talks in September, Taiwanese and Chinese authorities agreed to increase frequencies across the Taiwan Strait from the current 828, to 840 per week. Of the twelve, six are for Taiwan - Changzhou flights while the other six are for Taiwan - Jieyang flights. The latter is currently only served by charter flights. Taiwanese and Chinese carriers will divide the rights to the 12 additional flights in half.

Currently, Tigerair Taiwan serves Bangkok Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, and Singapore Changi from its Taipei Taoyuan base.
