Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras (AD, São Paulo Viracopos) has selected the A320neo from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) for its narrowbody requirements with the type scheduled to arrive from 2016 through to 2023.

In a statement, the Brazilian LCC said out of its total order for sixty-three A320neos, thirty-five will be acquired outright, while the remaining twenty-eight will be leased from Aercap (twenty) and GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) (eight). All aircraft will be powered by CFM LEAP-1A motors.

The jets, which will feature 174 seats, will be used on the airline's longer distance flights as well as on routes whose demand outstrips the capacity of its Embraer (EMB, São José dos Campos Professor Urbano Ernesto Stumpf) fleet.

Azul currently operates two A330-200s with an additional three set to arrive next year. The widebody aircraft will be deployed on the airline's maiden longhaul flights to the United States next month.
